Taylor Swift may be a hit on the music scene, but when it comes to magazine sales the 23-year-old singer is a total miss.
Women’s Wear Daily has the numbers from publisher’s statements to the Alliance for Audited Media, and they are nothing to sing about. According to WWD, Taylor sold 329,371 copies, including digital copies, for Vogue, which is way below Lady Gaga’s cover issue which sold 602,000 copies last year. Nor did she come close to the magazine’s second top seller, Adele, who brought in 410,343 in sales.
While Taylor did better by Glamour back in November, with 443,000+ copies sold, she was still beat out, falling into third place behind Victoria Beckham, whose cover issue sold over 482,000 in September. Meanwhile, her Cosmopolitan December issue sold a bit over a million copies, which made her issue the worst selling issue of the year for the magazine.
So what gives with Taylor’s poor performances in the magazine department? Is she just unpopular amongst magazine readers due to her immaturity, too overexposed, or is there just too much drama surrounding her that has ruined her for magazines?
“There may have been a little hiccup for her right around the 1-D relationship,” Glamour editor in chief Cindi Leive said about Taylor’s failed relationship with Harry Styles. “But it’s nothing a pro can’t come back from. I’d put money on her for the long run.”
